It’s A Family Thing…

As Robin and I watch this dream of adopting a child start to take shape, we often find ourselves wondering how this will be viewed from the innocent and precious eyes of our two children.  From big questions like “what is adoption?”, to the little things like “why are there so many bow ties around our house?”.

While we are still early on in the fundraising process, I can say with utter joy that our kids are as much a part of this journey as we are!  Not only is Wade already excited at the prospect of being our #1 bow tie model (see pics below!), he is even more excited about the prospect of who God will place in this family down the road.  He has already made it known that he wants us to adopt a little boy that is three years old just like him!  There is also hardly a day that passes where Wade isn’t mentioning the “Baby Scharff” that God is going to bring from Haiti.  As parents of such wonderful children (Chloe will surely be joining these conversations before we know it) our hearts melt with joy in knowing that God isn’t just calling Robin and I to adopt, but is truly calling our entire family.

Are you thinking how cute that kid would look with a 4th of July sparkler in his hand?? What better way to capture the fun of Independence Day than with our “Uncle Sam” bow tie!

In the beginning…

Today marks the beginning of an incredible adventure for our family: our journey to adoption. The adventure took hold of our hearts years ago, as newlyweds, Andrew and I dreamed of the family God might have for us.  Back then we planned it all out and along the way have opened white knuckle clenched fists to the dreams of He who knows the plans.

So here we are, raising up stone by stone, these little ones…Wade, the one with the tender heart and Chloe, full of zest for life.  And now we know, He’s adding another to the mix.

Our timeline is thankfully held in the hands of our God, who holds all creation together. Human eyes would see the Haitian legalities holding us back, but we’re choosing to trust our Heavenly Father.

In the meantime, we’re learning that it is God who does the setting of the lonely into families (Psalm 68:6). These days, the setting carries quite a financial commitment. Our Creative God is calling us to this endeavor, this bowtie treasure making endeavor.  And its quite like we’re walking out on a limb where only Christ is our foothold.

We’re opening up the shop door, inviting you all in. Come on in, check out our handmade treasures. Each and every bit of profit will go toward the (expected) $25,000 adoption cost. Join us on this journey, this rescue story…unfolding one bow tie at a time.

Both our Etsy Shop and Local Shoppe are open for business! And if you would be so kind, share a little bowtie love by following us here or liking us there.
