Knoxville Marathon



The Knoxville Marathon (April 7th, 2013 @7:30am) offers a total of 6 different race formats or distances for each level of runner.  Below are a list of the different formats and the details for each.



   Marathon: 26.2 miles 

You will start at the Clinch Ave Bridge in Downtown and run through several neighborhoods and finish on the 50 yard line at Neyland Stadium (home of the University of Tennessee Vols).
o   Cost: If registered before 2/15/13 -$75, after 2/15/13 - $85
§  Includes a top quality Tech T-shirt, goody bag.  Finishers receive a medal and finisher’s hat as well as access to the Pilot Post Race Party.
o   There will be 18 runner refreshment stations along the course and a total of 20 different musical acts will perform all over the course as well!
o   Runners are given a total of 7 hours to complete the course, which is an average mile pace of 16 minutes/mile.
o   There will also be pace teams led by experienced runners for time increments from 3 hrs. to 6 hrs.


Half Marathon: 13.1 miles 

Run through many of Knoxville’s most beautiful neighborhoods, finishing on the 50 yard line at Neyland Stadium.
o   Cost: If registered before 2/15/13 -$60, after 2/15/13 - $70
§  Includes a top quality Tech T-shirt, goody bag.  Finishers receive a medal and access to the post race refreshments at the Pilot Post Race Party.
o   The course consists of the first 13 miles of the full marathon course, thus the same amenities and pace teams will be available.

·         2 Person Marathon Relay

Allows two people to split the full marathon course into two half’s. 
o   Same amenities as the full marathon.
o   There will also be new competition categories for this race including Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, and Mother/Daughter, Husband/Wife or Sibling categories.
o   Cost: $45 before 2/15/13 or $50 after.

 4 Person Marathon Relay

Distances will consist of 6.4 miles, 6.4 miles, 7.5 miles and 5.9 miles.
o   Cost if $60 before 2/15/13 and $70 after.

·         5K

3.1 mile race through the UT campus.
o   The start time for this race is 7:45am. 
o   Finishers will receive a t-shirt and goody bag.
o   Cost is $25 before 2/15/13 and $30 after.
·      
   Kids Run: 1 mile fun run

o   This takes place Saturday April 6th @ 6PM. 
§  Open to all kids in 8th grade or under.
§  Cost is $15 before 2/15/13 and $20 after
·         Includes admission to the Knoxville Zoo for child and one adult.
§  Runners will receive a t-shirt, post race refreshment and a finisher’s medal.

Along with these distance opportunities, I also want to remind you that there will be a wide spectrum of runners at different levels.  If you are new to running or taking a big mileage jump know that you won’t be alone.  Most marathons and half marathons include runners from elite status all the way down to folks that will walk the majority of it (the course stays open for 7 hours which is a 16 minute mile pace).
